Betting Will Not Make You Rich

For my last bet, I put up eight thousand naira to win just over a million and five hundred thousand naira. It was a series of games, spanning over three days. By the end of the second day, I was so sure I was going to become a millionaire. By the middle of day three, LOL!

Everyone starts off betting with "humble and noble" intentions. Nobody starts off greedy; just do the bare minimum, slow and steady. It is just a source of extra income to augment the dying figures in your account. You will bet sensibly, on only sure odds. You will never go above 'two odds' at any given time. Just build it day by day. Forget all those desperate people looking for millions with five hundred naira—they are just greedy idiots. You won't listen to them, you'll do it the smart way.

I don't know how long it takes for this plan to breakdown—I just know it always does, like clockwork. One day, you're betting on 'sure' odds of two from the English Premier League or the Spanish La Liga, nothing too fancy. Next day, you are researching on the Belgian Jupiler Pro League or the third division of the German Bundesliga. At some point, you, who has never paid attention to any other sport in your life, are eagerly watching the scores of an Ice Hockey match, being played at two a.m, local time, in Toronto, Canada. At least, you're not like those losers who actually who go into bet shops to place bets and keep bet slips, you console yourself with. Yet, you join various bet prediction platforms and have accounts with multiple bet sites. Weekend no longer hold any entertainment value for you, it's just a period to calculate how many viable odds you can place bets on. Even when you lose, you are more annoyed over the potential money you lost than the actual money you lost. Even when you win, you wonder if you should have put more money.

Some drug addicts don't have it this bad. Because that's what this is—addiction! Somehow, what was suppose to be a recreational, fun activity has become a pandemic which is spreading like wildfire. You can count on your fingers the number of people around you who don't bet. Every street has at least, two bet shops. Seventy percent of the ads on sport stations are bet-related. It is projected as a fun activity which only has positives and you can quit any time. LOL!

I can tell you for free: Betting will not make you rich. You will lose far more than you bargained for. You will lose tangible and intangible materials. Watching sports is no longer recreational, it is now an event for gathering statistics. And you lose far often than you win. Do an honest Income Statement about your bet earnings and you will alarmed.

How to quit? You would have to do a hard reboot. Clear out every bet memorabilia and reminder. Unfollow, rather, block your bet friends and delete the apps. Best time to start? Now! Just do it.
